Dear Meerkat, How are you? Are you already used to your new home? We met last week when I was at Artis with my dad. We had read about a new animal enclosure in the newspaper that would be very special. Of course we didn't want to miss that. After a short walk through Artis we walked into a park with a strange building in the middle. That turned out to be your new home. Probably a bit weird to suddenly have so much space and an overview over Artis, after years of being tucked away in a small enclosure. I was excited to meet you, because we first had to go through very dark corridors. That is of course nothing new for you. When we entered the top level by a slope, you were so busy playing that you didn't notice us at all. That seems very nice to me, doesn't it? That you can do your own thing so well without people being around you all the time. There were many more meerkats in the enclosure. That should be nice, right? More meerkats to play with, or do you argue as well? I remember our meeting like it was yesterday. Suddenly you recognized us and you carefully walked towards us. Because I was lower we could look each other in the eyes. Unfortunately I could not stroke you because there was quite a bit of space between them. But luckily I was able to take some nice pictures of you and your friends. I'll add one to the letter! Are you writing me back? See you soon, Petula de Smit
