Dear Capybara,

When I was little my mom got a paca as a present from a friend. It was kept in the backyard of our house, where It lived in a hollow tree trunk. I remember playing with the tree trunk and hearing the stories about the paca, but I have never seen it for, I was told, it had ran away.
When I was a bit older we used to go to the zoo where - if I was lucky - we could see red agouti’s rushing through the bushes, looking for nuts or anything else to eat. I would jump in excitement and try to run after them. Every time. Off course they were too fast and agile for me to catch them, but even so for me it was one of the most exciting thing to do.

Well capy, that’s is more or less the reason why I picked you for my enclosure design! You reminded me of them, a childhood memory. Somehow I have a feeling I know you, how and where you live although we have never met in person before!

On that note I am exited to hear what you think of the enclosure I just designed for you the past semester. I hope that by going back into your roots, I was able to bring back some of the elements of your birth place, like the spel of curves and shapes, textures and colors, into your new home. I am excited to hear the moment that you start to feel at home. I hope that you are able to make new friends and perhaps share your customs with the people here, and exchange some habits. In your enclosure you will be able to interact with some of the visitors, apart from the care takers, and some birds. I hope your familly will enjoy the long baths in the pool, chilling under the trees and lie arround bushes, just like back home, only a bit different. And don’t worry about the Dutch weather: there is heating inside the enclosure so you and your family can be cosy and sound.

Kinds regards,
Cecilia
