Dear mini Hippo,

You probably won’t remember me. I’m not even sure if you even noticed I came by the other day. I remember how surprised I was when I first saw you, since I didn’t expect you there. Sorry if I scared you! You probably didn’t expect me either, at least not this close. What were you doing behind those walls anyway? You weren’t sleeping right? Come on, noon had just passed!

For me the zoo is a nice day-journey. Especially when the summer starts. A nice trip to reset my thoughts. How is this place for you? You’re here every day. This is your home. Do you notice the seasons? I remember your home as this nice and warm spot, as I’m on a holiday somewhere deep in the jungle. But my home is way different. Isn’t it too hot to be there every day? Is the water cool enough to wake up fresh every morning? If my home was as hot as yours, I would prefer a nice and cold shower. Luckily, it wasn’t so busy when I came to visit you. The atmosphere was nice and calm. The birds were quite noisy. Is it different some days? I can imagine screaming kids would be a bummer in this echoing area. Or is this not so bad? About the birds. How do you see them? Are they your friends? And the monkeys, do they try to steal your food when you’re not watching? They do that with me if I don’t pay attention! They’re quite clever though! Annoying huh?

I also wonder how you’ve got trapped in this area. Were you just sleeping, and did the walls just rise around you? Or did you simply liked this place, and you stuck around a bit longer than expected. Like a traveller who has found this great spot and he doesn’t feel like leaving yet. Oh dear, do you even know that your trapped? I mean, you’re sleeping a lot. No offence though. Maybe you don’t even know yet. But I’m sure you’re butt doesn’t fit through the openings though. It’s fair for you to know. Don’t try that by the way, the walls seemed a bit sharp to me. Or can you handle that? You’re a thick skinned animal, right?
The last thing I’m wondering is what if the walls keep moving? And a larger opening would arise. Would you try to sneak out and have a peek outside? Do you even miss outside? Do you miss the real sun on your skin? The real rain on your body? Or is this enclosure everything you’ve asked for? I hope you feel as free in your home as you would be in the wild nature.

All the best,
Savine
